Lord of Time

“And God said, ‘Let there be light,’ and there was light. And God saw that the light was good. And God separated the light from the darkness. God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, the first day…. And God said, ‘Let there be lights in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night. And let them be for signs and for seasons, and for days and years…'”

Genesis 1:3-4, 14

The Great Creator and Lord of Time “changes times and seasons…” (Daniel 2:21). He has set “a time for every matter under heaven: a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted; a time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance; a time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing; a time to seek, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away; a time to tear, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak; a time to love, and a time to hate; a time for war, and a time for peace…. He has made everything beautiful in its time….” (Ecclesiastes 3:1-8, 11) and He “will judge the righteous and the wicked, for there is a time for every matter and for every work” (Ecclesiastes 3:17).  We can rest in His perfect time, for “my times are in His hands” (Psalm 31:15).   What greater assurance could we have than to know that our times are in the hands of the eternal, unchanging, just, loving, merciful, and gracious God?
